Alabama Forestry Commission Employment Opportunities


 

With offices in counties throughout Alabama, the Commission has employment opportunities for people with heavy equipment, rural firefighting, and forest management experience. We employee graduate foresters, forest rangers, administrative assistants, account clerks, and dispatchers. Most positions have full benefits offered through the State of Alabama. To be considered for employment, you must submit an application through the State of Alabama Personnel Department. How?

  1. Visit the website, www.personnel.alabama.gov
  2. Download, complete, and mail the State application form. (Some position applications can be completed
    on-line.)
  3. An application must be submitted for each position for which you wish to apply. (Some positions filled by the Commission are listed on the back.) Once your application is received, you will be notified that you are on the employment register.
  4. As positions become available, you will be contacted to determine your interest.
  5. If you were placed on a continuous register, you will remain on the register for a period of two years from your original placement date. If you were placed on a current register, you will remain on it for the life of the register, until it is replaced.

FORESTER (Class 70429, starts at $33,086): These positions are located throughout the state. This is entry-level work in professional forest management. Work involves providing professional recommendations to forest landowners and promoting multiple-use forest management. Most foresters are also required to assist with wildfire suppression. These positions require a college degree in Forestry or a closely-related field. Foresters may be required to obtain a CDL during probation and pass an annual minimum physical fitness test. Employees are typically on call 24/7.

FOREST RANGER/TECHNICIAN (Class 70410, starts at $23,993): These positions are located throughout the state. Work involves assisting foresters with forest management, fire prevention, wildfire suppression, forest insect & disease control, as well as informational and educational programs. Heavy equipment experience is preferred. These positions require high school graduation or GED. Rangers will be required to obtain a CDL during probation and pass an annual minimum physical fitness test. Employees are typically on call 24/7.

POLICE COMMUNICATIONS OFFICER (Class 21121, starts at $25,570): Employees in these positions receive and transmit messages in a state-operated communications center located in Montgomery. Employees receive and dispatch messages using two-way radios, answer multiple incoming phone lines, complete various logs or reports, maintain locations of key personnel, and notify key personnel in emergency situations. The Dispatch Center is open 24/7 and operates on three shifts.
